Services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen with Rev. James “Oz” Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Handschumacher Cemetery, Upper Glade. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.

Garaldine “Babe” Tracy Giles, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born October 7, 1929, in Erbacon, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Burl and Eva Carpenter Tracy.

She was a 1947 graduate of Cowen High School, former Post Master of Arcola Post Office for several years, and a postal clerk at Cowen Post Office for three years. She was secretary at Cowen Wholesale and Standard Loan Company in Cowen. She was co-owner of the B&L Dairy Bar (now known at Granny’s Dairy Bar.) Babe was a former 4-H leader for 25 years with the Over the Top 4-H club and the Halo Sunbeams 4-H club. She started as a 4-H member 81 years ago and attended the very first 4-H Camp in Webster County. She organized and directed Christmas and Easter plays at the Halo and Arcola churches. She leased and ran Weese’s gas station and store, and she filed income taxes for lots of people in the community. She was Past Matron of the Camden on Gauley Chapter #161, Order of the Eastern Star and OES Grand Representative to the state of Nevada.

She is survived by her daughters: Janet (Larry) Beckett of Morgantown, Edna Martin of Camden on Gauley, Nona (Bill) Barker of Cowen, son Michael (Cindy) Giles of Cowen, grandchildren, Brian (Joy) Beckett of Charleston, SC, Travis (Kathryn) Giles of Cowen, Christopher (Mandy) Giles of Danville, VA, Eric (Ayme) Cochran of St. Albans, Kevin (Becky) Barker of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Lisa (Kevin) Hart of Morgantown, Traci (Richard) Rose of Webster Springs, Jennifer (Doug) Graham of Covington, KY, Samantha (Troy) Spinks of Mt. Lookout, Tish (Greg) Collins of Beckley, great grandchildren, Danielle (Robby) Tennant, Braden Poling, Chelsea Dean, Christopher Wilson, Megan (Tyler) King, Lily Graham, Carleigh and Jaxton Cochran, Shandi Anderson, Taylor Collins, Katie (Jared) Freeman, Kendall, Bradley, and Alyssa Giles, Madison and Jared Barker, one great grandchild Zoey King, and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years William O’Dell Giles, brothers, Harold and Charles Tracy, sisters, Geneva, Geraldine, and Louise. Sons-in-law, William David Martin and Samuel Cochran.
