Evelyn Jean Gillespie

Evelyn Jean Gillespie, 68, of Cowen, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the Pittsburgh VA. Medical Center after a short illness. She was born October 25, 1952 in Webster County, a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Vertie Woods Delaney.

Evelyn worked for over 30 years as an LPN at Webster County Memorial Hospital and the Webster Continuous Care Center. She was a U.S. Army Veteran, having completed the Medical Corp training program and the physical therapy program. She was a member of the American Legion Post # 62. Evelyn enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of over 50 years, Larry Gillespie, sons, Eric (Angie) Gillespie of Cowen and Caleb (Laney) Gillespie of Pearisburg, Virginia, brothers, Fred Delaney of Craigsville, Eddie Delaney of Cowen and sister, Susie Dorsey of Summersville, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, brother, Jim Delaney preceded her in death.

Evelyn’s wishes for cremation have been honored and a memorial service with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #62 will be held 1 pm on Saturday December 19th.
