Service will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Faith Methodist Church, Richwood with Dr. Jay Cook officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, October 30, 2017 at the church. In keeping with Don’s wishes, cremation will follow with inurnment at Highlawn Memorial Park, at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.morrisfuneralhomecowenwv.com. Donald Lee Combs, 90, of Richwood passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division after an extended illness.

He was born September 17, 1927 in Marting, West Virginia, a son of the late Joseph and Mattie Chaffins Combs. Don was a licensed funeral director and embalmer with over 60 years of service. Don was a 1946 graduate of Clay County High School and a 1952 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Providence and the USS Taconic. He was the owner of Richwood Monuments and former owner of Mountainview Cemetery and Combs Funeral Home, Montgomery, WV and co-owner of Combs Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, WV. Don enjoyed fishing, camping, pheasant hunting and was a collector of old kerosene lamps and antiques. He was a Renaissance Man. Having lived to 90, he was the last member of his parent’s family. He was a member of the Faith Methodist Church, Richwood.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Delores Huddleston Combs; Children: Michael (Linda) Combs of Lago Vista, Texas, Patrick Combs of Richwood, Sarah Combs of Coconut Creek, Florida, and Christina (James) Caddell of Belton, Texas; Grandchildren: Jeffrey Thorpe, Joel Thorpe, Shane Thorpe and Kacee Lovett; Great-grandchildren: Adrian Thorpe, Milana Thorpe, Dorian Thorpe and Olivia Thorpe. Many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, infant son Joseph Combs, Brothers, Gene Combs, Joe Combs, Bob Combs, John Wade, Bill Wade, Sister, Doris Payne and grandson Kevin Thorpe preceded him in death.
