Alma Doris Shikrallah Carpenter of Erbacon, passed away October 24, 2021 at the age of 97 after a short illness. She was born October 19, 1924 in Danielson, Connecticut. She was the daughter of the late Najib James Shikrallah and Mina Godreau Shikrallah.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ira Elbert Carpenter, Jr., sister, June Day, daughter, Deborah Stollings, and grandson, Kevin Carpenter.

Alma attended Killingly High School, Danielson, Connecticut and Glenville State College where she received her teaching degree. During World War II she worked at the Prims Factory in Danielson, Connecticut. She met her husband who was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut, and moved to West Virginia after the War ended. Alma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, substitute teacher and owner and operator of The Erbacon Country Store until she retired. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, swimming, cycling and dancing. She loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren. Alma was always full of life and could light up a room with her infectious laughter. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, James F. Carpenter and wife Helen of Erbacon, WV, daughter, Elaine Carpenter Wells and husband Dr. Hawey Wells, Jr. of Key Largo, FL. Grandson, Matthew Carpenter and wife Amanda of Craigsville, WV, granddaughter, Christina Carpenter and partner Kevin Mowatt of Tampa, FL., granddaughter, Lindsey Stollings of Charleston, WV, grandson, Rodney Travis of Cowen, WV, and Jeremy Carpenter of Cowen. Great-granddaughter, Alyssa Carpenter and great-grandson Austin Carpenter of Craigsville, WV, great-grandsons, Avalli Mowatt and Alijah Mowatt of Tampa, FL, granddaughters, Sonja Carpenter of Summersville, WV, Madison Carpenter and Summer Carpenter of Birch River, WV, granddaughter, Jennifer Auld, great-granddaughters, Finlegh and Sloane Auld of Columbus, Ohio, beloved dog “Duke” and numerous nieces and nephews.
